JPMorgan Chase is set to end its hybrid work model, which allowed employees to work from home part of the week, and is planning to require its staff to return to the office five days a week. This change, which will affect a large portion of its global workforce, comes after nearly three years of remote and hybrid work arrangements due to the Covid pandemic, according to Bloomberg.

Currently, JPMorgan has a policy that requires many of its 300,000 employees worldwide to work from the office three days a week. However, sources familiar with the matter say the bank will soon announce a shift to a full five-day office workweek for its employees.

A JPMorgan spokesperson did not comment directly on the change but mentioned that around 70 percent of its employees are already working from the office five days a week. The rest of the workforce works from the office three or four days each week.

JPMorgan’s Chairman and CEO, Jamie Dimon, has been a strong advocate for employees returning to the office. He has often spoken about the limitations of remote work, arguing that it reduces “spontaneous idea generation” and makes managing teams less effective. In April 2023, Dimon made it clear that all managing directors at the bank, regardless of their roles, were required to return to the office five days a week.

Dimon has also been vocal about the need for government employees to return to their offices. At an event late last year, he expressed surprise at the underuse of government buildings, saying, “I can’t believe, when I come down here, the empty buildings. The people who work for you not going to the office. That bothers me. I don’t allow that.”

JPMorgan’s decision to bring employees back to the office fully signals a shift in its approach to remote work, emphasizing the importance of in-person collaboration and productivity.
