The Uttar Pradesh government has suspended Ankit Mittal, a police officer, after his wife accused him of “domestic violence” and other misconduct. The government took this action based on an investigation into his wife’s complaint. Mittal, originally from Sonipat, Haryana, was transferred from his role as Superintendent of Police in Gonda last December and was later assigned to the Police Training Centre in Chunar, Mirzapur.

According to a senior government official, Mittal’s wife filed a complaint alleging domestic violence and claiming that he was involved in an extramarital affair. The government conducted an inquiry to look into these allegations. Mittal, who was born in 1989 and holds a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, has previously served in Rampur and Chitrakoot districts.

In July 2022, Mittal and 12 others were named in an FIR (First Information Report) for their alleged role in a fake encounter of a wanted criminal in Chitrakoot in 2021. This action was taken after the court received a complaint from the deceased criminal’s wife, Nathunia, from Satna district. The police had claimed that the deceased individual, Bhalchand Yadav, also known as Bhai Chandra, was a key member of a gang led by dacoit Gauri Yadav, which operates in the ravines of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
