Indian Bank cashier arrested for stealing Rs 43.89 lakh from bank after losing money in gambling

In Villupuram district, a bank employee named K. Mukesh was arrested by the police for stealing ₹43.89 lakh on April 25 from the Indian Bank branch at Chinthamani in the district, where he worked as a cashier. According to reports, on the day of the incident, Mukesh left the bank with his bag and claimed that he was unwell. His colleague, who checked the cash records later, found out that ₹43.89 lakh was missing and immediately informed the bank manager, who then informed the police.

Acting swiftly, the police began their search and were able to apprehend Mukesh at the Villupuram bus stand on Thursday after monitoring his call records. During interrogation, it was revealed that Mukesh had lost a substantial amount of money through online gambling, and had taken the amount to pay off his outstanding debts. He had planned to deposit the amount back into the bank account once he earned money through online gaming.

Reports suggest that after stealing the cash, Mukesh went to Chennai and booked a room for ₹3,000. However, the police eventually caught up with him when he returned to Villupuram, and they were able to recover ₹43.86 lakh from him.

Following his arrest, Mukesh was produced before a local court and remanded to police custody. The local police have filed a case against Mukesh under the relevant sections of the IPC, and further investigations are ongoing.
