The Indian government has introduced a new Aadhaar Governance Portal (http://swik.meity.gov.in) to streamline the approval process for Aadhaar authentication requests. The portal is designed to enhance service delivery, improve access to welfare benefits, and make governance more efficient.

New Aadhaar Rules for Better Governance

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) launched the portal following recent amendments to the Aadhaar Authentication for Good Governance (Social Welfare, Innovation, Knowledge) Rules, 2025, under the Aadhaar Act of 2016. These new rules aim to support good governance by making Aadhaar-based authentication more effective for both government and private sector services.

Aadhaar’s Role in Citizen-Centric Services

According to MeitY, the initiative is part of the government’s efforts to simplify processes, improve service efficiency, and enhance ease of living for citizens. S. Krishnan, Secretary of MeitY, stated that the portal will accelerate the adoption of Aadhaar authentication across various governance sectors, allowing for the inclusion of new use cases.

Bhuvnesh Kumar, CEO of UIDAI, highlighted Aadhaar’s vital role in India’s digital economy and its contribution to resident-centric governance. He explained that the new portal provides a clear, step-by-step guide for government and private entities to apply for Aadhaar authentication approval and onboard seamlessly.

Who Will Benefit from the Portal?

The Aadhaar Governance Portal will help both citizens and service providers across multiple sectors, including:

  • Healthcare – Faster patient verification and medical record access.
  • Education – Easy authentication for student enrollment and scholarships.
  • E-commerce & Hospitality – Secure identity verification for seamless transactions.
  • Workforce Management – Aadhaar-based staff attendance and background checks.

Government and private organizations can now use Aadhaar authentication to improve efficiency in service delivery, customer onboarding, and e-KYC verification.

Face Authentication for Seamless Access

The portal also offers face authentication integration, allowing customer-facing apps to enable Aadhaar-based verification anytime, anywhere. This will further enhance security and convenience for users.

With this new initiative, the government aims to expand the use of Aadhaar authentication, ensuring faster and more reliable access to essential services for all citizens.
