Ludhiana, Punjab: Police have taken action against two employees of HDFC Bank’s Gill branch after receiving a complaint that they had fraudulently withdrawn a customer’s fixed deposit (FD) worth ₹9.5 lakh. The case was registered after the police verified that the victim’s money was taken out without her knowledge or permission.
The accused have been identified as Prabhjit Singh, the branch manager, and Sannit Dhir, a bank employee. According to the complaint filed by Anita Rani, a resident of Ishar Nagar, she had opened two fixed deposits at the Gill branch — one worth ₹6.5 lakh and another worth ₹3 lakh. The fraud came to light earlier this year when Anita Rani tried to withdraw her FD amount but was shocked to learn that the money had already been withdrawn.
When she approached the bank for clarification, the officials failed to give her a clear or satisfactory explanation. She then lodged a complaint with the police. After an initial inquiry, the investigation team found sufficient evidence to confirm the allegations. Based on these findings, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Sadar Police Station confirmed that an FIR (First Information Report) has been registered against the two bank employees.
The police are continuing their investigation to determine how the fraudulent withdrawal was carried out and whether more people were involved in the case. More details will be released soon.
