Fake Currency Deposited at Axis Bank ATM in Shahdol, Police Begin Investigation

A case of depositing fake currency through an ATM at Axis Bank in Shahdol has come to light. The incident occurred on Saturday at an ATM near Axis Bank on Budhar Road, located in the Kotwali police station area.

How the Incident Unfolded

According to the police, a young man named Sagar Tiwari attempted to deposit ₹5,000 at the Axis Bank ATM. He had ten ₹500 notes, out of which four were counterfeit. As soon as he inserted the fake notes into the ATM, the machine’s sensor detected them and triggered a siren.

Hearing the alarm, the security guard stationed at the ATM intervened and detained Tiwari on the spot. The guard immediately informed his vendor, who, realizing the seriousness of the matter, escalated it to the bank management.

Bank Takes Action, Police Registers Case

Axis Bank Manager Vivek Bilthare formally lodged a complaint with the Kotwali police regarding the incident. He explained that the ATM is equipped with sensors designed to detect counterfeit currency. When fake notes are inserted, the system automatically raises an alert.

Following the complaint, the police registered a case against Sagar Tiwari and have launched an investigation. Authorities are now trying to determine how he obtained the counterfeit currency and whether a larger network is involved in the circulation of fake notes.

Police Investigation Underway

The police are currently examining all aspects of the case, including whether Tiwari was acting alone or if he was part of a bigger racket. Officers are also checking CCTV footage from the ATM and surrounding areas to gather further evidence.

This incident has raised concerns about the circulation of counterfeit currency in the region. The police have urged citizens to be vigilant while handling cash and report any suspicious activity.
