A major scam has been uncovered at the Punhana branch of the Gurgaon Central Co-operative Bank located in Nuh district, Haryana. Loans worth crores of rupees were taken by fake farmers using forged documents, and this fraud was reportedly carried out with the help of bank officials.
Over 50 People Involved, Including Fake Farmers and Bank Officials
According to reports, more than 50 fake farmers and several bank officers have been accused in the case. On the orders of a local court, FIRs have now been registered against them. The scam came to light when irregularities were noticed in loans given under the Solving Cash Credit Loan (RCC) scheme, which was designed to support small farmers in rural areas.
What Was the Scheme?
The RCC loan scheme was aimed at helping real farmers by offering them loans of ₹1 lakh per acre of land. But instead of helping genuine farmers, the scheme was misused by a group of individuals who submitted fake land ownership documents to get the loans.
The scam reportedly took place with the full involvement of some bank officials, including the then branch manager Kasam Khan and development officer Liaquat Ali. Here’s how the fraud happened:
- Fake land ownership documents were created.
- These documents were verified and approved by bank officers.
- The officers also falsely confirmed that the “farmers” had no existing loans and their land was not mortgaged anywhere else.
In the Punhana area alone, over 50 people received loans ranging from ₹3 lakh to ₹5 lakh or more. These loans were given out based on forged documents, leading to a huge financial loss to the bank running into crores of rupees.
Bank Advocate Confirms Multiple Cases
Advocate Ram Niwas Rao, representing the bank, confirmed that more than 50 fake loan cases have come to light from the Punhana branch. He stated that the then branch manager and the development officer played a major role in every single case.
Bank Filed Complaint in 2022 But No Action Was Taken
Interestingly, the scam isn’t new. The bank had filed a written complaint in November 2022 at the Punhana police station against the involved officers and fake farmers. But no FIR was registered at that time.
As a result, the bank was forced to approach the court. Now, Judge Nikita Bhardwaj from the local court has officially ordered the registration of FIRs against all those involved.
Following the court’s instructions, the Punhana police station has registered 7 FIRs so far. According to the Station House Officer (SHO), more FIRs are likely to follow as order copies are still being received.
