A tragic incident occurred in Rishikesh, where a bank manager from Hisar, Haryana, was swept away by the strong currents of the Ganga River. The incident took place during a weekend trip when the bank manager, identified as Pradeep Dhaka, decided to swim across the river.
While his friends stood on the bank recording videos, Pradeep attempted to swim across the river but was overwhelmed by the powerful current and disappeared into the water.
A video of the incident has surfaced, showing the tragic event. Despite extensive search efforts, Pradeep’s body has not yet been found. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and other teams are actively searching for him. Pradeep’s family has also arrived in Rishikesh, hoping for his safe recovery.

Pradeep Dhaka was covering as a collection manager at HDFC Bank’s agriculture loan department in Hansi, Hisar. He had planned a trip to Haridwar with a group of 3-4 friends. According to Pradeep’s father, Satbir Dhaka, the group decided to travel over the weekend, as they all had Saturday and Sunday off. After finishing their work on Friday, April 25, they left for Haridwar in the evening.
After spending some time in Haridwar, the group decided to visit Rishikesh. They reached GoGhat, a popular spot on the Ganga River, where they decided to take a dip in the river. While some of Pradeep’s friends stood on the bank recording videos, Pradeep and another friend ventured into the water. Pradeep, however, went ahead and told his friends that he would try to cross the river by swimming.
The Incident at Go Ghat
Unfortunately, Pradeep was only able to swim a short distance, about 3 to 4 meters, before he was swept away by the strong current of the Ganga. His friends quickly realized that something was wrong when they saw him struggling in the water and shouted for help. Local divers were immediately dispatched to the scene and began searching for Pradeep in the river.
Despite their best efforts, Pradeep could not be located. The search continued for a long time, but he remained missing. The SDRF team was later called in to assist in the search operation.
Ongoing Search Operations
SDRF team inspector Kavindra Sajwan confirmed that efforts to locate Pradeep are still ongoing. Meanwhile, Pradeep’s family, including his brother Mandeep, has arrived in Rishikesh to support the search. They remain hopeful that Pradeep will be found safe.
Safety Measures in Rishikesh
Local authorities are taking safety measures to prevent such incidents from happening again. SHO Santosh Pathola from Laxmanjhula Police Station mentioned that many parts of the Ganga River in Rishikesh are dangerous, and entry is restricted for tourists in these areas. Warning notices have been placed near the river’s banks, and two policemen have been assigned to patrol the area, using loudspeakers to alert people of the dangers from morning until evening.
