Cybercriminals in Panchkula are using new ways to cheat people by creating fake websites that look exactly like real bank websites. One such case involved Hrithik Arora, a Chartered Accountant living in Sector-9, who lost ₹84,610 in an online fraud. The criminals tricked him by pretending to help redeem his credit card reward points.

How the Fraud Happened

In November, Hrithik received a call from someone claiming to be a bank representative. The caller told him he had many reward points on his credit card that were about to expire. To make the story believable, the caller shared a fake customer care number and assured Hrithik that the process to redeem the points was safe.

The caller sent Hrithik a link to a fake website that looked identical to his bank’s official website. Trusting it, Hrithik entered his credit card details to redeem the points. However, as soon as he did, ₹84,610 was withdrawn from his account without his permission.

What Hrithik Did Next

When Hrithik realized he had been scammed, he immediately contacted his bank’s customer care number and got his card blocked to prevent further fraud. He also reported the incident to the Haryana Police using their online complaint system.

Police Investigation

Based on Hrithik’s complaint, the police registered a case on Saturday evening and started investigating. Hrithik explained that the fake website used by the criminals was so similar to the real bank’s website that it was hard to tell it was fake. He asked the police to take strict action to stop such frauds.

A Growing Concern

This case shows how cybercriminals are becoming smarter and finding new ways to cheat people. Experts advise everyone to stay alert and avoid clicking on links or sharing personal details if they receive unexpected calls or messages. Banks also remind customers to always verify information through official channels.

Hrithik’s case is a reminder that we all need to be careful when sharing sensitive information online. If something seems suspicious, it’s important to report it to the authorities immediately.
