27 year old Bank Employee commits suicide by jumping off Bandra-Worli Sea Link

A 27-year-old employee of a multinational bank allegedly died by suicide on Friday night by jumping off the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. The victim, Akash Nagendra Singh, was a resident of Ganesh Leela CHS, Parel.

According to the police, Singh was staying with his elderly parents. He had two married sisters. On Friday, he took a taxi from Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) to Parel, and asked the driver to take the Sea Link route.

“When the taxi reached the southbound stretch of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, Singh asked the driver to stop the car mid-way, pretending he had accidentally dropped his cell phone. When the driver stopped the car, Singh got off, climbed the railing, and jumped into the sea from the bridge,” said an officer from the Worli police station.

The taxi driver informed the police control room about the incident, and the Worli police rushed to the spot. With the help of local fishermen and a police boat, Singh was rescued from the water and rushed to Bhabha Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Singh was identified from the identity card found on him, and his parents were contacted. They told the police that Singh had been in depression due to personal reasons for the past three months.

“We have recorded the statement of the taxi driver. Prima facie, there seems to be no foul play, and the parents have not filed any complaint. Hence, an accidental death report (ADR) has been registered. Further investigation is underway,” said another police officer.
