Bank Cashier Arrested for Murdering Grocery Businessman in Dwarka

Police have solved the mystery behind the murder of a grocery store owner who went missing from the Baba Haridas Nagar area in Dwarka district. The accused, identified as Rohit Kumar Singh (28), a cashier at a private bank, was arrested on charges of murder. The police have also recovered the Scorpio-N SUV that was used in the crime.

The Incident

The tragic events unfolded on the night of April 13, when Jagwinder Singhania, a 40-year-old grocery businessman, was returning home on his bike. As he rode past Rohit’s car, a bottle of liquor Jagwinder was carrying broke when the bike brushed against the car. This led to a heated argument between the two, and during this exchange, Rohit, who was drunk, decided to kill Jagwinder.

Rohit then lured Jagwinder into his vehicle, claiming he would offer him another bottle of liquor. Rohit drove him to Ranhaula, a local area, where he gave Jagwinder the liquor. However, after the victim consumed the drink, Rohit violently attacked him, hitting him on the head with a brick and a stone. After killing Jagwinder, the accused disposed of the body by throwing it into a drain.

Discovery of the Body

On April 27, police discovered Jagwinder’s body in a severely decomposed state at Ranhaula police station. The body was identified using personal belongings found with it, including a purse and an Aadhar card.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ankit Singh, shared that Jagwinder had been living with his wife, Anju, and their two children in Surukhpur Road, Gopal Nagar. He ran a grocery store in RK Puram Sector-7 with his father, Leela Ram. On April 13, Jagwinder left home on his bike, but never returned. His family reported him missing the next day, after finding his bike abandoned near a college. His phone was also turned off.

Investigation and Arrest

The police began their investigation by reviewing CCTV footage from the area where Jagwinder’s bike was found. The footage showed Jagwinder with a man driving a Scorpio car. This led the police to investigate the car’s whereabouts by reviewing footage from over 500 CCTV cameras. Eventually, they identified three possible vehicles and traced the Scorpio to the Bakkarwala drain area.

The police managed to arrest Rohit Kumar Singh, the driver of the Scorpio. Initially, Rohit provided misleading information, but he eventually confessed to the crime. He admitted to killing Jagwinder after their argument over the broken liquor bottle. He explained that he had killed Jagwinder while drunk and discarded the body in the drain.

Background of the Accused

During the investigation, it was revealed that Rohit Kumar Singh, who had completed his BBA, worked as a cashier at Kotak Mahindra Bank in Vasant Kunj. His father had retired from the CRPF, and Rohit had recently gotten married in November. The murder was committed while he was intoxicated.
