Aadhaar has become an essential part of banking and financial transactions in India. However, many people confuse the concepts of Aadhaar Linking and Aadhaar Seeding. While both involve associating Aadhaar with a bank account, their purposes and functionalities differ.
What is Aadhaar Linking?
Aadhaar Linking refers to the process of providing your Aadhaar number to a bank while opening or managing your account. This process helps in identification and Know Your Customer (KYC) verification.
Key Features of Aadhaar Linking:
- Aadhaar is linked to a bank account for verification and compliance.
- It is primarily used for identification and KYC purposes.
- A single Aadhaar can be linked to multiple bank accounts.
Aadhaar linking ensures that your identity is verified and enables smoother banking operations. However, it does not automatically enable Aadhaar-based payments or subsidy benefits.
What is Aadhaar Seeding?
Aadhaar Seeding is a more specific process that involves associating a particular bank account with Aadhaar to enable direct benefit transfers (DBT) from the government. This ensures that government subsidies, pensions, and welfare benefits are directly credited to the Aadhaar-seeded bank account.
Key Features of Aadhaar Seeding:
- It enables Aadhaar-based payments and subsidies.
- Ensures direct credit of government benefits into the seeded bank account.
- Only one bank account can be seeded with Aadhaar at a time.
- Exclusively used for receiving government subsidies and Aadhaar-enabled payment services.
Aadhaar seeding is necessary for availing government welfare schemes such as LPG subsidies, pension payments, and other Aadhaar-linked benefits.
Why is Aadhaar Seeding Important?
Aadhaar Seeding is important as it enables DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) for various government schemes. Citizens can get subsidy, or money from government directly in their Bank Account if Aadhaar Seeding is done and DBT is enabled.
