A large group of 69,000 teacher aspirants from reserved categories has recently made headlines with their protest outside the residence of Minister Anupriya Patel. These candidates are demanding their appointment letters and have voiced three primary demands: compliance with a High Court ruling, the release of a new merit list for appointments, and the removal of those responsible for the flawed previous list.

The Protest Takes a Serious Turn

The protest, which has been ongoing for some time, became more intense when a young woman among the demonstrators fell ill inside the residence of Minister Ashish Patel. She was quickly taken inside for medical attention as her condition deteriorated. It was reported that both Ashish Patel and Anupriya Patel are currently away in Prayagraj, but they plan to meet with the candidates upon their return.

Demonstrations Expand

On Tuesday morning, the protest expanded as candidates from the reserved category also gathered at the Apna Dal (S) party office. Hundreds of protesters have been demonstrating outside the minister’s house, demanding that the decision made by the Lucknow High Court’s double bench be implemented. The candidates have been vocally expressing their frustration with continuous slogans, and a significant police presence has been deployed to manage the situation.

Background of the Protest

Amrendra Patel, a key figure in the protest, highlighted that the recruitment process began in 2018. However, when the results were announced, many reserved category candidates felt that they were unfairly treated and denied job opportunities. Following a prolonged struggle and legal proceedings, the Lucknow High Court’s double bench ruled in favor of these candidates on August 13, 2024. The court directed the government to appoint these candidates according to the established rules.

Despite the court’s ruling, the government has been slow to act, leading to growing frustration among the protesters. They are calling for the government to resolve the issue urgently and provide a clear schedule for the appointments of the affected candidates.

The Road Ahead

The protesters remain determined and are committed to their cause until their demands are met. They continue to put pressure on the government, hoping for a swift resolution to the matter.
